Eastern Promise
Will Romania be the location for the first international Terry Griffiths Snooker Academy?
During a recent visit to Bucharest, Terry Griffiths Snooker's Senior Coach, Wayne Griffiths, was shown around the Romanian National Snooker Centre. This fantastic facility is the brain-child of Romanian Senior Coach, Dragos Cozmaciuc.
Mr Cozmaciuc is a former Olympic standard karate coach and turned his interest to snooker to foster his son, Bogdan's, interest. In 2005 Mr. Cozmaciuc made a trip to the Terry Griffiths Snooker Academy in Llanelli where he successfully completed his training as the EBSA National Coach for Romania.
At this stage the Romanian National Snooker Centre was in the planning stage. True to his word, Mr. Cozmaciuc opened this brand new snooker facility in 2006. The first stage included two floors with 8 snooker tables and this has recently been joined by a very impressive third floor. This additional floor houses a brand new Riley Aristocrat snooker table and comfortable viewing area for championship matches.
Romania, in a very short time, has one of the best structures in Europe with regular events for Juniors, Cadets, Men, Ladies and Masters. A Premier League of 16 of the countries top players play off in various locations around the country and national competition entries have grown from under 50 to over 250 in just 3 years. This excellent structure coupled with a strong technical discipline fostered by Mr. Cozmaciuc and his team, will surely see more and more Romanian players competing for continental championships in the very near future.
Since our first meeting with Mr. Cozmaciuc in 2005, he and the Romanian Snooker Federation have been strong partners for Terry Griffiths Snooker and we are very pleased to announce that they are now considering taking up the opportunity to host the first ever international Terry Griffiths Snooker Academy.
