<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Terry Griffiths
Snooker's Director of Coaching Development, Wayne Griffiths, has
recently been confirmed as the first ever Head Coach for Billiard
Sports at the <a
href="http://www.hksi.org.hk/hksdb/front/e_hksi1.html"
title="Hong Kong Sports Institute">Hong Kong Institiute of
Sport</a> (HKSI). This exciting new role will see Wayne responsible
for promoting and growing snooker and pool in the
region,&nbsp;developing coach education and working closely with
Hong Kong's elite players.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Based in Sha Tin
in the New Territories, the Hong Kong Institute of Sport is a state
of the art training facility housing many Olympic and non-Olympic
sports. The Institute is&nbsp;currently undergoing&nbsp;a period of
re-development that&nbsp;involves almost HK$1.8 billion funding
from the Government. The construction works commenced in March 2009
and will be completed in three phases over three years.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Billiard sports
qualified as an elite sport in Hong Kong in 2009. This allows the
sport to fall under the umbrella of the HKSI and releases funding
to develop the sport. This allowed HKSI to start a world-wide
search for their first Head Coach for Billiard Sports. In
conjunction with the Hong Kong Snooker Association (HKBSCC)
interviews were carried out with potential candidates, culminating
in a short list of applicants arriving in Hong Kong for a two day
selection process in early June.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Wayne was
informed in July of his successful application and will now start
work in Hong Kong at the end of September, 2010. It will be a
baptism of fire, as soon after starting his new role Wayne will
accompany Hong Kong's elite stars to the Asian Games in China and
the IBSF World Amateur Championships in Syria.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">A buisness
graduate and former Project Manager, Wayne has also been active as
the European Snooker Association's Senior Trainer for National
Coaches and qualified as a World Snooker Association Coach in 2007.
In his time as Coaching Development Director at Terry Griffiths
Snooker, he has been responsible for the design and launch of the
Terry Griffiths Snooker website, the co-design and launch of
snooker's first dedicated software analysis tool, Snooker Lab and
he is currently working on ground breaking snooker related
development projects with both Swansea University and UWIC.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Hong Kong's gain
will be Terry Griffiths Snooker's loss as Wayne will now obviously
be unavailable to fully support his coaching commitments here at
the Terry Griffiths Snooker academy.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Good luck
Wayne!</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">SNOOKER sensation
Jamie Clarke has scored a hat-trick of Carmarthenshire Junior
Snooker Open titles.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Jamie, aged 15
and from Bryn in Llanelli,&nbsp;is Wales' hottest snooker
prospect&nbsp;and is remarkably ranked number one snooker player
for Wales at under 21 level.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">He has recently
narrowly missed out on winning £5,000 and a year's mentoring from
Ronnie O'Sullivan when he represented Wales at the World
Championship selection process in Sheffield.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">In the county
competition Jamie beat European Under 19's champion Jak Jones from
Cwmbran to secure the under 18 crown. Jamie was defending champion
and had already won the under 14s event in 2008.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">This&nbsp;was a
great scalp for Jamie securing a 3-1 victory in a tight game with
few breaks. Jak Jones will be a professional player in the 20010/11
season.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Swansea Ieuan
Davies, aged 13, triumphed in the under 14 competition overcoming a
strong challenge from Barry's Ryan Rowlands. Even though Ieuan ran
out a 2 - 0 winner, both frames turned on a miss rule stringently
applied by qualified referee, John Pellew.</p>

attracted 32 entries with 64 players travelling from the length and
breadth of Wales.</p>

annual championships for a third year.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">The competition
is the biggest of its kind for young people in Carmarthenshire, and
is part of a huge drive to involve young people in sport and
leisure.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Terry Griffiths
said: "The competition is going from strength to strength and has
now been firmly established on the Welsh Junior Snooker
Calendar.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">"The
county&nbsp;has turned out snooker players at the very highest
level in the past and the CCC Junior Open gives today's aspiring
young players the chance to enjoy competition that will hopefully
provide the platform for future achievements in our sport."</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">County executive
board member for leisure services Cllr Clive Scourfield who
presented the prizes said: "It is wonderful to see youngsters with
such talent being nurtured in such a professional manner. I look
forward to following the progress of these senior sporting stars of
the future.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Council tourism
and marketing manager Huw Parsons said: "Snooker is one of the UK's
most popular leisure pastimes and we are working to develop and
promote the sport to young people, as it encourages dedication,
coordination and discipline."</p>

<p class="FontSize1">WORLD snooker stars Jimmy White and Cliff
Thorburn have visited Llanelli as part of their U.K. Legends
tour.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">The 'Whirlwind' and the 'Grinder' took part in
a special exhibition match at the Terry Griffiths Matchroom.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">They arrived in the town last week fresh from
a special challenge with Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins at the Crucible
in Sheffield.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Competition winners and club members lined up
for the chance to out-pot the snooker stars.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">The event, which was a sell out, has been
hailed a great success.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Thorburn, who was the only overseas player
ever to have won the modern world championships until Neil
Robertson managed the feat only last month, cued up for the first
four frames against 6 times world finalist and people's champion
Jimmy White. White looked by far the sharper of the two and came
out a convincing winner in this mini session.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">After the interval, both players took turns to
line up against some local talent.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">First up was Rhydian Stringer and he took
Cliff Thorburn very close in a scrappy affair. Next to try his luck
was Matchroom team player Mark Hughes. Jimmy White was too hot to
handle though and fell just short of a century break.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Other members to try their luck against the
Legends without a success were Matchroom Club Captain, John Pellew
and John Banks. The only local success on the night came from 11
year old Tyler Rees. He paired up with Jimmy White to secure a
comfortable victory over Cliff Thorburn and his partner Wayne
John.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Jimmy said: "This is my fourth visit to
Terry's Matchroom club and it is always a pleasure to return to
such an excellent snooker facility.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">"The Matchroom is known throughout the U.K.
and the rest of the world as a first class snooker venue and the
members gave myself and Cliff a great Welsh welcome."</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Cliff Thorburn was also impressed with his
visit to the famous Terry Griffiths Matchroom.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">"I had many epic battles with Terry on the
table, so it was nice to be able to sit down and share some
memories in a relaxed atmosphere.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">"I was fascinated to see what Terry and Wayne
had achieved with their Academy set up and the launch of their new
interactive coaching website and I only wish Canada had such a
facility to boast of.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">"My form unfortunately was not the best on the
night, but I'd like to think that my dry Canadian wit helped to add
something to a great evening of snooker" he said.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Matchroom owner Terry Griffiths said he was
delighted to welcome both players to the Matchroom.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">He said: "I never tire of seeing the greatest
names in snooker visiting my home town and my club and Jimmy and
Cliff, while very different in style, were the two of the greatest
players from my era.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">"All members and guests seemed to enjoy the
night and we hope to start up regular professional visits over the
coming year".</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Jimmy White and Cliff Thorburn are the latest
big name to play at the Matchroom in recent years.</p>

<p class="FontSize1">Some of the game's biggest stars including
Steve Davis, Dennis Taylor, Mark Williams, Stephen Hendry, Matthew
Stevens and Willie Thorne have all taken part in exhibition nights
at the Matchroom.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Terry Griffiths
OBE has been blown away by the impact Snooker Lab has had on his
coaching at the very highest level. He feels that the level of
analysis and recording now available through this dedicated
software will revolutionise how the game is taught to the next
generation of snooker players.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">"I am convinced
that I would have won many more matches and been a far more
consistent player if I, and the coaches I worked with, would have
had access to Snooker Lab. To have a continual record of my cue
action over time and to be able to compare and contract any
changes&nbsp;I made to my technique would have been invaluable in
my pursuit of overall improvement and consistency".</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Terry went on to
say that the comparisons available with some of the game's elite
players will be invaluable to beginners and serious snooker players
alike:</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">"The fact that
Snooker Lab allows you to see frame by frame, synchronised
comparison of your own action next to the likes of Steve Davis,
Stephen Hendry, Marco Fu, Mark Allen, Matthew Stevens etc., will
aid understanding and appreciation of&nbsp;snooker's
technique&nbsp;in a way that has never been available before.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">"If I could have
had access to this type of information during my development, I am
certain it would have not only made me a better player, but would
have seen me improve at a much younger age".</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">Former world
champion Griffiths&nbsp;emphasised&nbsp;another
pertinent&nbsp;point in relation to beginners and intermediate
players:</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;" class="FontSize1">"Demonstration is
a massive part of coaching, especially when dealing with beginners
and intermediates. Seeing a top player's cue action in the detail
afforded by Snooker Lab is worth a thousand words to those players
earlier in their development curve. Add to this the fact that the
student gets to see themselves on the television or computer on a
split screen comparison with Legends like Steve Davis and Stephen
Hendry, and it is easy to see why players and coaches alike are
impressed by this new product".</p>
